The old stuff

What old oil does

Oil wears out

Heat and miles can break oil down, reducing how well it protects moving parts.

Deposits build up

Contaminants can build up over time. Neglected oil may form sludge that restricts oil flow.

Parts wear faster

With less protection, metal rubs on metal. That wear adds up and doesn't come back.

Less cooling

Worn or low oil may not carry heat away as well, increasing engine wear.

Watch for

Warning signs

If the oil pressure light comes on, pull over safely and shut it off. Ticking, knocking or gritty oil are signs too.

Never

Don't dump it

Never pour used oil on the ground, down a drain, or in the trash. The EPA says the used oil from one oil change can contaminate a million gallons of fresh water.

Good news

It can be recycled

Used oil can be cleaned and refined into new oil. Keep it in a sealed container and take it to a used-oil collection site.

The lube part

Oil change

Out with the old, in with the fresh. Call for a price on your vehicle.

  • Mon–Fri8 am – 5 pm
  • Have readyYear, make and model

Why change your oil?

It keeps parts slick

Oil coats the moving metal inside your engine so the parts slide instead of grinding.

It carries heat away

Oil moves heat off hot parts and helps keep the engine cool.

It holds the dirt

Oil carries dirt and particles to the filter. Change it on schedule, not just because it looks dark.

How often?

It depends on your vehicle and oil. Follow the schedule in your owner's manual.

Which oil is which?

Standard

Conventional

Refined from crude oil. Often less expensive, but only use it if it meets your vehicle's requirements.

A mix

Synthetic blend

A mix of conventional and synthetic oils. Check your owner's manual for the right grade and specification.

Top shelf

Full synthetic

Engineered for consistent performance in hot and cold conditions. Many newer vehicles require synthetic oil.

Older engines

High mileage

Formulated for higher-mileage engines. Some blends include additives to help condition aging seals.

What does 5W-30 mean? The first number is how easily the oil flows when it's cold (the W is for winter). The second is how thick it stays when the engine is hot. Your owner's manual lists the one your engine needs.
